I've long thought it was the roller bombs as used on the Ruhr dams. But here's film of how the US did it.

Awesome video!   It also shows how workers use modular floats that someone asked about in another thread which I think was about a picture of a large formation of floats behind an aircraft carrier.

This happens to be the same float brand that I encountered in the shipyard... they're very flexible and the way this crew used them to raise the B25 was awesome.

Oh the mud....

I'm a bit surprised that the mud didn't suck the innards out of the plane.

They were screening the mud, so I think that was part of the understanding (plan)  🙂 At least the museum director looked happy covered in it!

An intact, fully outfitted plane.  Golden.

Even if the original lower turret design was junk.

There was an episode years ago of Secrets of the Dead regarding the Dambusters raid.

While I can't find that particular show, I did find this which covers everything that show did, including the dropping of a spinning bomb from a DC-4
