Happy Canada Day Ensign!

I live in central British Columbia. We spent the day prepping "Greta" - our motorhome.

Camping next weekend!

Happy Canada Day.

I mowed the lawn, today.

Yesterday and the previous day, I did some online shopping for some motorcycle accessories:  Exhaust heat-shield, new handlebar grips, a USB power outlet to recharge a phone or power a GPS unit, a phone-mount (which can double as a GPS mount).
The handlebar shims I've been waiting on (for over a week) finally arrived late in the afternoon of Saturday.  I'll be able to bring them to the shop, once the new handlebar grips arrive (hopefully tomorrow).  Then they can complete the installation of the new handlebar.

Played enough over the past few days to complete some in-game mission tasks and make progress on the current battle-pass.  (Currently at stage 19 out of 20.)

Discovered a new (to me) anime series to watch.  I've already finished the first season and am halfway through the second season of "Fairy Gone".

Posted in various Forum topics.

Did some grocery shopping.

Hope everyone is having a good time.  🙂

Naval Battles.  Operations at night with the normal crew.

I've been restoring an Embury kero lantern these past few days and finally found an automotive paint that mostly matches what they used in 1941 when this lamp was made...

Been working on a series of "Patch Knives" that were originally early 1800's butter knives...!  It seems, even back then, they repurposed what they had.  So, so am I off on another project.... It took several months of research to find originals to duplicate....!  But, I did and I am off on yet another antiquities project:  finding original butter knives !

Worked on one of my 40 Caliber Flintlocks for a match this coming weekend.  I'm off to the range when I finish typing this reply to validate the load data.

Other than that, just trying to survive the heat......  I hate the heat.

I didn't die at the range this morning- !  Good Holy Schwartz !!!  It was freaking hot........but, I verified what I though I knew.....

image.thumb.jpeg.50d0d928c4f72200501aea902865ee7e.jpeg  This is a Flint lock rifle.

Money in the bank this weekend !  Yes, I keep detailed records of every rifle and pistol I shoot in competitions....  BTW, the little holes are from our 22 shooters and I reuse their targets;  because,  most of those guys shoot 100-8X 's at the entry level....at 100 yards.    Like on this target - you can see the two (2) 10's ....  The green dot covers the X ring !!  Waste not want not I say !

And Ballistol.  Milk & Ballistol.
Which made me curious about the chemistry involved.  Your post reminded me that I have yet to follow-up on that line of research, though.  🙂

Edited to add:  According to my quick research, the "milk" isn't from a cow.  It's more like a nomenclature term used in Muzzleloading for a patch-lubrication recipe (or category of recipes) colloquially known as "Moose Milk".

Are you willing to elucidate further, @Asym ?  🙂

Alas, the Google GoD's have spoken.

Yes, "milk" is 50% Ballistol and 50% water.   Now, there are, as you have shown, all sorts of patch lubricants for Muzzle Loading rifles and pistols.

And, for liability reasons, I deleted several paragraphs of why patches and lubes are extremely important to accuracy.  Not my place to lecture.

And no.  I will never make a YT video...  Too much liability and to be honest, having shot BP all over the US and just coming back from the NMLRA competitions in Friendship Indiana, BP shooting is an Art......building the weapons of that era is an Art....using the weapons of that era is an Art......with a lot of science underneath the "how it works effectively"   For me, that is 53 years of shooting from the day my Amish neighbor handed me a original 1784 Flintlock (that his great-G-G-G-G grand father traded for......and, never used and it was later donated to a museum !) and told me to shoot some Grundsaudaag !   Now, Amish is not German....  So please, understand that ground hog is Grundscow in some communities as well so....... Google doesn't work !!!

The parts that my motorcycle was waiting-on finally arrived (the other day) and I was able to have the shop finish-up the desired work.
Today I picked-up my bike and test-rode it around for a few hours.
Now I'm home, safe & sound, after some two-wheeled therapy.  🙂
