I enjoy loot boxes. You think it’s a bad deal untill you pull a ship from the first one.  People calling it gambling are just mental. Gambling you get nothing if you loose. At least with loot boxes you get something.

Yes... but it's still a gamble, you might have instant regret when you see what the box drops, much the same as when you see which key you picked up.

Good for you...buy as many as you want...

Wrong. Loot boxes are a bad deal, period.

Oh...really? None of the people who are criticizing loot boxes are showing any signs psychological trouble. And you need to choose your words more carefully.

Loot boxes rarely give a reward of any substantial value. If someone is going to spend real-world money to acquire loot boxes, the possible rewards should justify the cost.

Even if you pull a ship, the total cost of all of those loot boxes is usually greater than the value of the ship. The house always wins.

People calling it gambling are accurately understanding the business transaction.

Claiming that garbage loot box drops have value is to be deliberately disingenuous.

It used to be the case that the situation was a bit like you didn't lose in terms of value. Used to be.

Of course it's gambling. You wouldn't buy these mediocre permacamos at that cost. Or blue boosters.

Meanwhile in actual casino gambling you can win real money. Quite easily even if you play blackjack or something. Nobody would play blackjack if it was 4% chance to win but at least you always get a piece of toilet paper!

Gotta go to the right parties.

On topic;

Accidentally bought 1 loot box, got Belfast 43 out of it. Gambling is fun

Ah, but did you WANT Belfast 43?

THIS is the real question.

For instance, i am absolutely delighted to have won the Alliance since I don't play subs.
I also got the Kaga B (and Kaga too btw), Bearn, Rhein and Weser, Sanzang, Furious and Ark Royal ==> all of them are all ships I'll never play unless I am drunk, stone or simply desperate...

Winning a ship in a crate always seems nice.. except when you get a piece of crap or a ship that you're sure you won't play.
And PLEASE : don't tell me ALL ships are good. This is not true.

The only good thing about that is that  on can use the captain for another ship. Provided one can have a 10 points one. Otherwise, it's rarely useful...

Very personnal opinion of course and thus higly arguable.

There is nothing inherently bad about loot boxes. It is about how you use the mechanic.

As for the actual chances, it is 4%, which is 1 in 25. You get an alternative ship from the same group if you draw one you already have.

Meaning a person must spend on average 18,750 doubloons to get a ship to drop, assuming no discounts are utilised.

As long as people have choices I don’t see any problem with loot boxes. I don’t think there a good deal or anything but obviously some people like them.

I just am not a fan of people taking away choices because they have a need to project their values on others.
I think people can make up their own minds.

1% chance to get Rodney

750 doublons per container

yeah lets just throw money at WG betting company, beacouse for sure they are not gaming company.

gonna use my money on lottery ticket today, better chances there to win!

Frustrated as hell with this offer.

You could simply buy Rodney in the premium shop for cash like I just did you know., no gambling required...

Just a thought...

So you are the arbiter of satisfaction for other folks transactions? Thanks, but no.

I sometimes buy a few loot boxes, depending on the contents. Every once in a while I get lucky. Mostly I don't. I still know going in that will probably be the case. FXP, Eco chits, and to some who are not me, even the useless camo's have value. You don't get to decide that for them.

Many of the concerns could be addressed by having a limit on the number of loot boxes available, the ones you have to buy for real money or doubloons. The mechanism exists even now, it's those 'reserved for you' type of loot boxes I mean.

Or just having the items available by other means like the case in question...

I get to determine the value for me...so, in a way, I am the arbiter of satisfaction.

You are really not arguing my point though, which is that some loot box results can and are viewed by some people as completely worthless...and therefore claiming every loot box item has value to every customer is disingenuous.

There are people playing this game who won't play CVs or subs or both. Giving them a completely OP ship type that they will never play is a loot crate that is worthless to that person.

It's still gambling, this game is run by a company whose chosen business model is gambling. Until WG decides to stop selling loot boxes, they will be tempted to utilize gambling mechanics with all the negative implications for their customers that the business model entails.

All of the above doesn't speak to your blanket statement that anyone who claims to find value in something you do not are being 'deliberately disingenuous'

Have a good day, sir.

Not what I said...

Feel free to debate that strawman with yourself.

Oh, it isn't settled in the least.  Within 1 week or so we will be getting another earfull about gambling mechanics and loot boxes, rich people have all the fun, scummy WG lackeys taking advantage of me, you're a shill because you have more resources than me, horrible business model, I don't have as many premiums as you, you have boosters and I don't, blah, blah, blah.  Criticism galore, none, yep NONE of it constructive.

My weekend is shaping up nicely, hope yours is too, @Admiral_Karasu.

It amuses me to watch folks debate their own strawman and think it has any effect on me...

The weekend should shape up nicely, I hope.

Had to verify that a rat snake which surprised my mother in law isn't under the deck just now...

Summer is come.

I am amused by threats to play a different game.  On a non-sanctioned forum.  Oh, please don't leave, lol.
