Can we have a looser policy regarding swearing?

I think the hot humid weather across much of North America may be making some people a bit testy.

We're all adults here, by overwhelming majority.

It is precisely because we're all adults here that we have chosen to abide by the no-swearing rule. There is no one stopping us from reverting back to being 15-year-olds who just discovered how to chain together F bombs. But social spaces tend to be nicer when they require their members to put in a bit of effort.

A laxer rule would inevitably be exploited by those too lazy to express their discontent in more civilized ways, and the quality of our conversations would suffer. This individual constraint is a small price to pay for an overall collective good.

I have always found it amusing that folks want to type more. The same discussion used to (still?) come up about in game text chat. I swear verbally in certain circles and circumstances. I have rarely found the need to do it in text. More work, that.
