o4x4
Live in https://armory.worldofwarships.asia/en/category/event/ COMBAT MISSIONS Completing the entire combat mission chain will reward 5 Battle of the Java Sea containers and 1x Premium one; 3 Flying Dutchman expendable camouflages; and most importantly 30 Java Sea Tokens. This is enough Tokens to purchase VI PERTH. If you don't already have her, get yourself a nice discount on IX MINEGUMO (190 tokens, still require at least 15,000 doubloons) or VII JUPITER '42 (90 tokens, add at leat 5,000 doubloons), or additionally obtain 6 Battle of the Java Sea containers (0.6% ship drop rate). The final reward is historical 6-point Commander Takeo Kurita with a specialization for VIII MOGAMI or Karel Doorman with a specialization for IV DE RUYTER. You can obtain an unlimited number of Java Sea Tokens in exchange for Doubloons and up to 10 Java Sea Tokens in exchange for 2,000 Community Tokens.
Nevermore135
The last time WG ran an event centered around the Battle of the Java Sea, I got a free Exeter. Perth is an ok tier VI cruiser, I guess (albeit one I already own). It’s disappointing that there doesn’t appear to be a way to earn both commanders (or even buy the other one individually), though. Daniel_Allan_Clark
What will the missions entail? These things are usually too much grind for me...if past experience (Scharnhorst43 aside) be counted upon...
xamdam
Wasn't even paying attention to this mission and this crate dropped... I was like... "What's a Java Sea container?... Oh, nice!". lol Still wish they would have gave me the WV44 but hey, free ship is free.

Mind you, Yudachi (if she's the one I think she is - she's the Poi? ship, right?) is rather better than she was these days; I vaguely recall buffs being applied and - IMO - she wasn't entirely dreadful before. On a related note, I nabbed Jupiter last night: she's a lot better than I was expecting. For some reason, I'd got the impression she was another clunking great visible-from-orbit DD such as WG are wont to produce, to avoid upsetting the incompetent BB drivers. Was she improved during development, or was I just confusing her with something else? She's actually pretty sneaky for T7, and feels somewhat like an AP-only Haida with RN smoke... I've only played her a couple of times in Coop, but she feels like she might be a worthwhile alternative for T7 Ranked. Mighty Secondaries™ too!! I'm not an Anime guy (even after living in Japan for 40 years, go figure...) but it seems okay in Ops. First run got me 20 torp hits, "Ray" and top of the scoreboard. 😄 Maybe I just got lucky... Forgot to mount any "boosters" so that's the raw income. And just after the battle, this popped up... First I'd heard of the Java Sea stuff. Guess I don't need to bother learning any more since my luck has obviously run out. lol

Verblonde
42 minutes ago, xamdam said: Maybe I just got lucky... Nah: Yudachi is a pretty decent torp truck, and if you've played through the IJN torp DD line (or even the dakka line to T7) there's a good chance you've got a decent torp-orientated captain available to put in her, and you'll almost certainly already know what to do with a ship like that. For context, DDs currently in the Armory: Unfortunately I can't remember how much I paid for Yudachi when she was available. This link suggests she was $27.20, but I think that's US dollars. Links that give her price in doubloons all say "Offer Expired", which isn't much help. At the current exchange rate with $CDN, 1.35:1, that would put her at $36.72 or very close to 7000 dubs.

Verblonde
BTW bonus for Austin Powers enthusiasts: the crates can drop permanent versions of the Union Flag cammo. Now several of my RN cruisers look like sea-going Shaguars. This makes me happy... Edited February 16 by Verblonde
Wrath_of_Deadguy
Just for a laugh, here's the mini-biography of Admiral Kurita WG posted in the news article for the event. Somebody clearly didn't finish their history homework... Quote Takeo Kurita (1889–1977) was a vice admiral in the Imperial Japanese Navy. When the Pacific War began, Kurita was in command of a Mogami-class heavy cruiser division. His ships covered the Japanese invasion of Java in late February through early March, 1942. During a fierce night battle in the Sunda Strait, he destroyed an enemy squadron that had attempted to attack transport ships carrying landing forces. In spring of the same year, Kurita's cruisers delivered a heavy blow to Allied shipping in the Bay of Bengal. In October 1944, Kurita's fleet, which included both existing Yamato-class battleships, played one of the key roles in the Battle of Leyte Gulf and dealt a blow that was nearly disastrous for the Allies. (emphasis mine) "Dealt a blow?" "Nearly disastrous for the Allies?" The IJN got its aft kicked up between its eardrums on all three fronts!

To be fair, I suspect poor English skills are a significant contributor here. The last sentence seems to be a reference to the action off Samar, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it was supposed to read: “…played one of the key roles in the Battle of Leyte Gulf and nearly dealt a blow that was disastrous for the Allies.” which would be an accurate statement regarding that action, with Kurita commanding the Center Force from Yamato. If resistance hadn’t been suicidally fierce and his force had been able/willing to break through to the landing zones, it would have been a very different result, at least on a tactical level. But then again, this is the same company that refers to Prinz Eugen in in-game descriptions as a “battlecruiser,” so who knows. a252
I am a bit disappointed as I have got Perth from the Santa crate last christmas. Now my only viable option is to get 6 gamble container (with 0.6% chance to get a boat) or 4.5mil credit...

The IJN got its aft kicked up between its eardrums on all three fronts! Yes. Taffy3. A few jeep carriers, a pair of Fletcher-class destroyers and some DD escorts pulled off one of the greatest rearguard actions in naval history. Kurita's plan came within a whisker of success, while Halsey had taken the US fleet off on a wild goose chase. Jupiter looks reasonably priced so I'll buy her direct. Minegumo I can chuck a few gambleboxes at but she's not going to be better than other DDs I have at Tier IX (hello Benham!).

coolrunings_99
..getting the Dutch bloke, if things get into place and I manage the mission chain w/o consciously grinding it..got no love for Mr.Careful & Indecisive Kurita san😁 Cant wait for new ‘commie’ cruiser line though, since I suck in cruisers the least, and will ll do my best to show dildo captains the fun and engaging experience of uhh omm !detected!…look -its Davy Jones locker, again🤟😘
Gnirf
I probably use the tokens for the boxes , I will not pay doubloons for the DD it is OK but nothing that I can not wait for. I have nearly all normal premiums and it will be in Santas in the end. If not - so be it. If the non-ship random boxes would have contained say 10 tokens each I might have reconsider.
