Love for VIII Yorktown!

So, as of this week, I have enough battles in Yorktown to qualify, and I am leading NA server in average planes destroyed. I would like to be dealing more damage, and I have suffered from an awful lot of team lemming trains gone bad, leading to bad WR and PR, but it still feels really good to control the skies again!

 

I am really looking forward to having X Essex on the day we can finally research it!

I keep getting Independence against Independence fights...which really aren't that useful in racking up plane kills.

Once the event settles down, I'll get back to grinding my captain for Yorktown.

I get it. Yorktown vs Yorktown has probably lowered my average by at least 5 planes from where it would otherwise be. At least at tier 8 there are more alternative carriers. We really need more tier 6 premium options. Bogue, Wasp, or Shoho would make excellent tier 6 premium CV options.

Bogue (and Shoho? - do I remember right?) might give some people heartburn if it(they?)they come back as premium(s), seeing as it/they were TT ship(s) before.

Yeah, players got their XP back as FXP and credits back as well, (depending on what they opted for in the CV rework) but I could see some players being miffed anyway.

(Maybe a “Battle of the Coral Sea” mini-dockyard with Hornet as the final reward and the other two as midpoint rewards. With commensurate lower cost and lower grinds. I forget - Has WoWs ever done a CV dockyard?)

Maybe “mini-dockyard” is too much. Do it as one month’s “battle pass”, but that might be too much “value” for one battle pass.

You’re thinking of Zuiho, which was the old tier V IJN CV, so it will probably be the new tier VI IJN CV when WG gets around to releasing the second IJN CV line.

There really isn’t any reason to get upset at Bogue returning as a premium (outside of probably being low tier with planes that never flew off her decks) because of the way WG shuffled the US CVs with the rework. Rather than simply taking the existing tier VI/VIII/X ships (like they did for the IJN line), WG dropped tier VII Ranger (where she never belonged opposite Hiryu) down to tier VI. Yorktown was just introduced as the new tier VIII, with Independence staying tier VI and Essex being bumped up to tier X, so there is no place for the old tech tree tier V Bogue (outside Raptor Rescue, that is). I would be shocked if WG doesn’t eventually recycle her hull into a premium ship.

Honestly, Bogue (an escort carrier) was always a very odd choice for tier V of the original US CV line, which could have easily been filled with fleet carriers and light carriers. Something like the following would have made a lot more sense for the old CV line:

IV Langley, V Ranger (makes more sense with low tier planes than Independence), VI Independence, VII Yorktown (the closest contemporary to the old tier VII Hiryu, so also makes sense), VIII Lexington, IX Essex, X Midway

Still so many *excellent* Premium CV options out there, really. Eagle, Formidable, Victorious, Saratoga, Wasp, Bogue, Zuiho, Hiryu,  Taiho (or are those last three part of the next IJN CV line)...?

Those last three are supposed to be the Japanese support line, but the gimmick needs more testing.
