This is a tough reply.

Tom Cruise and Kevin Costner.  Gosh, when it comes to a movie "deep dive" these two actors are the one's that go where no one has gone before and survived.....

Minority Report and The Postman.........both, seriously got blasted in the market but........

The Last Samurai and Dances with Wolves....  Wow. let's take a historical genre and see where it goes.....

Edge of Tomorrow and Open Range.....  Holy crap, let's not be bored with fake backgrounds and let's explore Oh-My !

Kurt Russell

I was staying at my cousin's place when his son and I were pallbearers at our great aunt's funeral. My cousin was a WWII vet and a geologist, plus an avid outdoorsman, and his house was filled with interesting things. On his wall was a picture of the C-47 he'd been the crew chief of when they dropped paratroopers behind enemy lines on D-Day. Next to it was a picture of himself and his son on dirt bikes with someone who seemed sort of familiar, also on a dirt bike. After a couple of minutes it hit me, it was Kurt Russell. Apparently, my cousin knew Karen Silkwood and her husband before they got divorced and had stayed in touch with him. He and his son then got invited to the set when they were filming Silkwood. He said that Russell was a pretty down-to-earth guy and not full of himself at all.

I'll agree with that one. When I was in the Army, I read a lot of Louis L'Amour. Therefore, I was really interested when when someone told me that "The Sacketts" was going to be on TV. The only problem was that the only place I knew of that had a TV on base was the rec center, which was five miles from my barracks. I didn't have a vehicle at the time so I made the walk, which wasn't that big of a deal because we ran three miles every morning for PT.  I though that the movie was pretty good and true to spirit of the novels.

I also read a lot of Louis L'Amour when I was in the Navy. They were some of the most passed around books in the division. Quigley Down Under is one of my favorite westerns. The Jesse Stone series is also very good. Worth watching.

Louis L'Amour was well known for researching his novels. When I was a medic on desert training, I once drove a patient over to the hospital at Twentynine Palms. On the way back, I picked up a Louis L'Amour novel to read when I was back in the field. The area the novel was set in sounded familiar and I realized that it had to be pretty close to where I was stationed at Ft. Irwin.

When I saw this topic at first, I thought it almost had to be "favorites in different eras."

I could name a grocery list of actors from the 40s, 50s, and 60s.  Probably one reason I enjoy watching old movies so much.  Thank goodness for all the streaming channels available today!

It's probably not too good to try to learn too much about actors because their actions and lifestyles will usually disappoint you. If they are good at portraying a character then they have done their job as actors. Very few of them are people who you would actually want to sit down to dinner with. However, there is one current top-draw actor that nobody has anything but good things to say about and that is Keanu Reeves.
