There are a few gaps in some of the maps that are just the preferred hunting ground of subs because of how people have very limited angles of getting in and out of a given cap. Close to the end, you see the oil on the surface and just to the left of the oil spill is a sliver of white on the ocean revealing the location of the sub (in the same way an undetected ship is revealed upon being destroyed).
