Saw this photo on another site where I'm a member.  Even though their hulls were pretty much destroyed, thought it was interesting that the USN was able to reuse so much salvage material from these two DDs and then built entirely new ships and gave them the wrecked ship's names and hull numbers.

Is that the USS Shaw towards the front? I saw another picture of her earlier from just after the attack and I can't believe she was actually restored to service. She was literally WRECKED. No bow, superstructure gone, etc.

You might be interested to know that the guns of Arizona's #2 turret were salvaged, re-lined, and installed on the Nevada. Turret #2 can be seen just above the waterline in this picture. The Arizona's rear turrets were installed as shore batteries in Hawaii.
