As I understand it, that applies to the mono-hulls.  They're solid gone.  One thing the LSC has going for it is speed.  Let's see a cutter catch a cigarette boat.

Maybe the Navy can test possible ASW mission modules on narco-subs.

The problem is, that none of the LCS's in service is combat capable at those speeds; unobtainable when broken. That's one of the many reasons they're being retired. Both concepts are designs not thoroughly tested or reviewed. Both classes were launched before the technologies they contained were matured or completed. Furthermore, my knowledge of naval architecture isn't enough to validate or deny any remedy to their actual problems. Meanwhile, government naval architects have already spoken: failed venture.

With enough ships, boats, planes, drones and perhaps even submarines working together, all that needs to be done is to detect a suspected target early enough for other assets to be vectored for an intercept.
Land-based Law-Enforcement could also be communicated with, to wait for the target at the anticipated landing/docking location.

But, if there are enough gaps in the detection coverage, then something might slip through.

Same as can happen in-game.  🙂

lol  What we have here is dominance complacency.  "No one can challenge us.  Let's experiment with the fleet."  Well, that was just plain stupid.  In WWII, Liberty ships were Model Ts.  They couldn't do anything well except their job of hauling cargo and getting build in vast numbers.

We might get back to that way of thinking -- if we could crew them.

New York is in the foreground, is it Oklahoma in the middle?

Sorry, I don't know my ships well enough to answer. Could be Texas.

The internet sure comes in handy at times...did some digging and found this from the FDR Library (ship schedule for that day).  Per schedule/line up, that is the Texas.  In front of the Texas is the Mississippi.

it wasn't just the horrendous maintenance and mechanical unreliably of the vessels, but the constant hull cracking they experienced during their lives.

One suspects they were going for light weight and skimped on the strength calculations.

Editing this because apparently it was already answered.

Spoiler

In case anyone is interested, here's a "home video" of the 1934 fleet review (or a part of it, they were filming ships as they passed).

The battleships start appearing at the 10:40 mins mark. There are certain mistakes on the video but other than that it is surprisingly interesting.

Not likely... Hull reinforcement is something that happens. Likely cause is that the entire LCS program was designed by the Bush Administration to be dependent on civilian Shipyards for maintenance and repair, in a similar version to the Holiburton MWRAP; eternal cash cow for the civilian market.

Thank you for sharing this @Sidelock, some amazing film of our pre war fleet and glimpses of 1934 NYC, I really enjoyed this.

Cute, but the BRAC was started under Clinton and cut the Navy’s repair facilities by half.

As Eisenhower warned to beware the military industrial complex, don’t make the mistake of attributing it to any one administration…
