My Oland was the only Tier VIII in a random with ten Tier X ships (and our Yugumo was not running concealment!?!) in a 4-cap domination battle on Sleeping Giant. I spawned SE with our Shimakaze and it turned out we were up against Forrest Sherman and Paolo Emilio. They took D and pushed, but ended up both getting torped, so we swept north and took it back. The reds were winning in the west and took A, so I shadowed the retreating Montana long enough to get into their side and cap B, while Shima scouted the middle. Even though we were behind on points, we were ahead on ships, so I thought smart play could bring it back. But a flurry of deaths left only me on half health, Shima on low health, and a Republique and Montana who were chasing the retreating red Monty north. Reds also had half-health Conquerer and Schlieffen, low-health Asashio and what I believe was a full health and unspotted Shima of their own. I slipped into the caldera to cap A while the reds took C, but we now had 3 caps and were closing the points gap. Then both our battleships got sunk, one by guns and the other by torps! I had hit Conquerer with a few weak Euro-torps, but Shima delivered enough that even the super-heal could not keep him afloat, and I got the by-now low-health Schlieffen with a few more to put him under. We were still behind on points, and it was a cap race. I retook C while our Shima re-took D, sinking the foolish Asashio in the bargain. We again had 3 caps (red Montana, still alive, came back and retook B) and we had no idea where their Shima was. The game timer was ticking down, our points were inching closer to theirs, what tension! With 10 seconds left we surpassed their points total, and won as time expired. Not nearly my best game on damage or spotting, but the caps were what got us the win. Our Shimakaze player kaxxmaxjhb had a great game, was helpfully communicative the entire time, and even visited my port after the battle to congratulate me on "restoring his faith in humanity." It was an intense opening fight at the D Cap. Yes, he saved my bacon twice which comped him for. Problem I see with a very new-ish function where the new Essex line can actually provide more team support to team other than just spotting (smoke screens) and the fact that most surface ships are hard focused on damage taken and aiming and sub pings and 40 other stuff, and maybe even more so in a Colbert since you have to focus hard on you're leading a maneuvering target etc. then its hard to catch a thing like smoke suddenly appearing. I actually thought i drifter behind the island when my detection went dark, it was only when I actually dropped the sight fully that I realized I was suddenly sitting in a smoke trail that had appeared out of nowhere. So I think it would be nice with some small icon indication and also maybe a mild sound effect to get players that are 100% in the fight of their lives to know they now are in a smoke. This might just be a DD, High DPM light cruiser problem. Long reloading heavy cruisers and BBs probably dont have a problem noticing smoke appearing since they probably already sit zoomed out to look for next target. First battle supership CVs, and ofc ours was afk half battle, then came alive and then died. Enemy Eagle devastated everything in its path since AA is a joke and planes are unlimited. Exit game? Yes.
